Avatar: The Way of Water – Movie Review

Avatar The Way of Water is finally here! That’s right, 13 years after Avatar first graced the big screen and broke all kinds of records, James Cameron has finally delivered us its sequel. Now, I have to be honest with you guys, I really thought this film would never see the light of day. I mean, it’s been pushed back and delayed so many times that I was convinced that it was never going to happen.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the first Avatar movie. I watched it again last night, and while I found the story to be pretty run-of-the-mill, it’s undeniable that the visuals were truly stunning. It’s one of those films where you just have to sit back and appreciate the technical achievement that it is.

I was hoping that James Cameron would try something new for the sequel, but alas, it seems that he’s sticking to what he knows. The story in Avatar: The Way of Water is simple, something along the lines of “protect those you love” which is certainly not revolutionary, but I suppose it’s all about how you dress it up. And let me tell you, James Cameron knows how to dress things up.

This film is technically mind-blowing, the visual effects are absolutely staggering. I mean, I don’t even know how they did some of the things they did. I’m pretty sure that the actors were in mocap suits, but beyond that, I’ve got no idea. The first Avatar had some pretty dull scenes involving the human characters, but this time around, it’s all about the blue people. From start to finish, you’re in a constant state of awe.

Despite its simple story, the Avatar franchise has a valuable message about our environment. The first film was about protecting our forests, and this one is about protecting our oceans. It’s clear that James Cameron is passionate about the environment, and it’s great to see that he’s using his films to spread awareness about it.

Now, I know what you’re thinking, “Oh great, another preachy movie about saving the planet”, but I promise you, Avatar: The Way of Water is still a very entertaining film. There are plenty of action scenes involving people getting shot with bow and arrows, so there’s something for everyone.

If you’re a fan of big, crowd-pleasing movies, then you’ll love Avatar: The Way of Water. It’s a simple story, told in a big way, and it’s got a message that we should all take to heart. Plus, it’s been a long time since we’ve had a film that’s this visually stunning. It’s truly an experience that you won’t forget.
